Houses for Kings Head pub site win planning approval
Kings Head pub in Burgess Hill is closing
The closed Kings Head pub in Burgess Hill is a step nearer demolition to make way for 13 homes.
A firm called B1 Offices has won approval to knock down the pub and replace it with seven three-bedroom houses and six two-bedroom houses, as well as 26 garages and car parking spaces.
Attempts to market the premises brought no interest.
A similar planning application was withdrawn last October when West Sussex County Council objected because visibility for drivers heading towards Haywards Heath would not be good enough. A wall has since been lowered to improve the sight lines.
Planners told the South West area planning committee of Mid Sussex District Council in the conclusion of their report: “It is considered that the loss of the public house, whilst regrettable, can be supported. The sue of the land for residential purposes is considered appropriate in this mainly residential area, and the layout and elevations of the proposed scheme are considered acceptable in all respects.”
The pub, alongside London Road, one of the oldest in the area, was once a thriving centre for live music in the town.
