Humanist rejected again from schools' RE advisory group

A HUMANIST is threatening to take his case to the Equality and Human Rights Commission after being rejected yet again from a committee advising schools on how they teach religious education.

Andrew Edmondson, from Balcombe, is a local volunteer for the British Humanist Association and has been trying to get representation on West Sussex County Council's Standing Advisory Committee on Religious Education for the past four years.

But his latest bid, following publication of new education guidelines by the Government, has again been rejected.

WSCC's Cabinet Member for Education and Schools Peter Griffiths said nothing had changed since Mr Edmondson's last attempt to be included on the committee, and his application would not be looked at again until 2013 when the committee's membership was scheduled to be reviewed.
