Laundry gets clean start as homes site is given green light
31 Franklynn Road, Haywards Heath
Four homes may be built on the site of a laundry in Haywards Heath, planning councillors have agreed.
A row of three terraced houses and a single-storey, studio-style building have been approved for land behind 31 Franklynn Road, together with demolition of outbuildings and the laundry.
The house will be kept as part of the development, under the approval granted to applicant Ian Eldred by the North East Area Planning Committee of Mid Sussex District Council.
The scheme met with some opposition, but a report said it would not “detrimentally affect the character and appearance of the locality” and “no significant harm would be caused to highway safety or neighbour amenity”.
Haywards Heath Town Council objected because councillors believed there was a lack of parking and had concerns over access.
A submission to the council supporting the application said that attempts had been made to sell the laundry without success and it was no longer considered viable at the site. Objectors considered the access road off Franklynn Road dangerous, visability at the access point inadequate, the houses out of keeping, and the height likely to cause loss of light.
