Mavis Flowers has planted an oak tree in Hassocks to commemorate the Queen’s jubilee.

Hassocks Parish councillors thought of Mavis as the ideal candidate because she served as clerk to the former Keymer Parish Council for more than 25 years and also served as a Hassocks Parish councillor until her retirement two years ago.

Mavis, 84, said: “I was amazed and honoured to plant the tree on behalf of parishioners in Clayton, Hassocks and Keymer.

“It’s in a good spot because it’s off Dale Avenue and all the children going to Downlands and Windmills schools can see it and it is also near Age Concern and the doctors’ surgery.”
