Mid Sussex police join campaign for safer driving

IT has been illegal since 1983 yet drivers in Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill are still flouting the law on seatbelts.

One hundred and 10 drivers failed to buckle up in Haywards Heath and 75 in Burgess Hill during spot checks by police.

In Haywards Heath 20 front seat passengers were not wearing their belts and one in Burgess Hill. Two children under 14 were not strapped in.

Sussex Police's Roads Policing Unit took part in the Europe-wide Operation Talon and issued a staggering 333 fixed penalty notices in just one week to drivers not wearing belts.

Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) wants to hammer home the message with a new campaign reminding motorists that 'It's just a click'.
