Former record breaking balloonist Mike Scholes from Lindfield has been picked to carry the Olympic Torch after being nominated by the Mid Sussex Times.
Mike’s place was confirmed in the list published this morning after the Middy submitted his name to be considered alongside tens of thousands of others last year.
Mike, a former Navy helicopter pilot, is the former founder and owner of Chad Ballooning who had to sell the company and give up his record-breaking ballooning adventures after he was diagnosed with a hereditary visual impairment.
He has since taken up running and raising money for St Dunstan’s. the charity for visually-impaired ex-service men and women.
One of his fund-raising efforts took him to the North Pole where he dragged a fully loaded slegde over the floating ice pack.
