MP donates trees to parish

MP Nicholas Soames has demonstrated that he is tackling global warming with actions on the ground as well as words in Westminster.

The busy MP for Mid Sussex took time out to donate four trees to Lindfield Rural Parish and turned out in his Wellington boots to help plant them.

The gift was part of Mr Soames' undertaking to off-set the carbon caused by the miles he travels.

He braved the wind and rain to plant two of the trees in the Remembrance Garden at Walstead Cemetery, on the edge of Lindfield, on Friday.

Two flowering cherry trees were planted at the cemetery, which dates back to 1854 and is a Site of Nature Conservation Importance (SNCI), while two Alder Buckthorne trees, which attract yellow brimstone butterflies, will be planted in the wood at Scaynes Hill Common.
