MP Nicholas Soames faces quad bike charges

Mid Sussex MP Nicholas Soames is facing charges after an incident involving a quad bike.

Mid Sussex Magistrates Court confirmed yesterday that Mr Soames, who lives near Warninglid, had been summonsed to answer two charges at Crawley Magistrates Court on April 16.

The offences are alleged to have happened on New Year's Day at Plummers Plain, between Handcross and Horsham.

A Crown Prosecution Service spokesman said: "Mr Soames has been charged with having no insurance and an offence under Section 40a of the Road Traffic Act 1988 of 'use of a motor vehicle or trailer when the number of passengers carried by it or the manner in which they were carried was such that the use of the motor vehicle or trailer involved a danger of injury to any person'."

Mr Soames, 60, grandson of the former Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill, is summonsed under his full name of Arthur Nicholas Winston Soames.
