Muddy but not a washout in Cuckfield

Cuckfield was luckier than Lindfield when it came to its annual bonfire and firework celebrations.
The event took place on Saturday night before the torrential overnight rain that wiped out Lindifled’s bonfire and firework display on Lindfield Common on Monday.
Cuckfield went ahead with its celebrations in full although car parking had to be abandoned on the grass and diverted to the roadsides.
Cuckfield Park itself turned pretty muddy but the bonfire and fireworks to music were still enjoyed with catering by village organisations managing to proceed and raise funds for their coffers.
Money is also raised every year for Holy Trinity School, Woodlands Mead School and other local charities.
Another highlight during the morning was the annual Guy Fawkes competition, which was judged by Sue Mayou, who, with her husband, owns Cuckfield Park where the firework party is held every year.
Sue is pictured above with the winning scarecrows.
