Name of 92-year-old killed in collision near home is released

The name of a Newick man who died after he was involved in a collision with a car near his home has been released by police.

Denys Begbie, 92, of The Green, received serious injuries in the accident at 9.10 pm on Wednesday of last week.

Police say a Land Rover Discovery travelling east was involved in a collision with Mr Begbie, who was heading north across the road.

Mr Begbie was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and died there the next day.

The car driver, a 60-year-old woman from Uckfield, was uninjured.

The road was closed for four hours while emergency services were at the scene.

Police sergeant David Morgan said: “I’m keen to speak to anyone who saw or heard the collision or who saw either the pedestrian or the vehicle in the minutes beforehand.
