New bid to build around marina

REVISED plans for more than 300 flats and houses at Newhaven Marina, including restaurants, bars and a boat park, will go on display to the public next week.

Oakdene Homes are developing land in Newhaven in three phases as part of the port masterplan.

Their previous application in relation to the Railway Quay, on the east side of the river, and the Marina was withdrawn after discussions with planners.

This was to allow time for additional supporting information to be provided, including a full flood risk assessment on the Railway Quay site.

Now a separate application, just for the marina, will be submitted to Lewes District Council.

Members of the public will have the chance to have they say on the

plans from November 7-9.

A public exhibition will take place at the Villa Adriana at the marina on all three days.

An architect from Morgan Carn Partnership will be there to answer questions from 10am-noon (November 7), 12-2pm (November 8) and 2-4pm (November 9).

The current proposal for the marina has been changed following further consultation with the district council. It now provides for 321 apartments, 12 houses, bars and restaurants and a continuation of the riverside walkway with a revamped marina and boat park facilities.

The re-submission of the application with the additional supporting information requested by the planning authority, is due to take place in mid November.
