New homes numbers to be slashed
Figures for the numbers of new homes that will have to be built in Mid Sussex over the next 20 years are about to be slashed once and for all.
The Coalition Government has finally announced that it is to revoke the South East Plan that allocated 17,100 homes to Mid Sussex between 2011 and 2031.
Instead, the district will take 10,600 – the number proposed in the replacement Mid Sussex District Plan, which goes to public consultation soon.
Town and parish councils now have to finish their neighbourhood plans to strengthen their arms against unwanted development.
Meanwhile, however, on the borders of Haywards Heath, a battle royal is only just beginning between developers and local people like Tony Filmer (pictured) who are fighting to save their precious countryside. Mr Filmer is fearful that water and land could be polluted if 230 homes are built on green fields.
