New postcards for Eastbourne

Two competition winners will have their artwork posted around the world.

Mark Jarvis and Tyler Battle scooped top prize in the Eastbourne Borough Council Design a Postcard competition.

There were nearly 250 entries, from photos of the pier, seafront and Beachy Head to graphic designed entries in collage, colourful illustrations and paintings on canvas.

Eastbourne Borough Council spokesperson for tourism Councillor Steve Wallis said, "I am delighted with our two new Eastbourne postcards.

"The response to the Design a Postcard competition was fantastic and judging all the entries was a much harder task than I expected.

"I am confident we have chosen two designs that have a strong commercial value and will receive positive sales the minute we unveil the printed designs to the public, taking pride of place in the postcard rack at the Tourist Information Centre."

Mark's postcard showing four Eastbourne Pier and Bandstand views capturing the beautiful colours of the sun rising, beat more than 100 others to triumph in the 16 and over category.

Sponsored by Jane de Weck Photography, Mark has won a day with Jane in her South Street studio.

Tyler, 15, from Causeway School, created an illustration of Eastbourne that stood out above nearly 150 other entries to win in the under 16s age group sponsored by Plan Ahead Copying Services & Arts Supplies.

Thanks to Tyler's impressive entry, The Causeway School has won 250 Splat teaching software plus a bumper selection of arts materials courtesy of Plan Ahead.

All entrants will be able to see their designs on display at the Tourist Information Centre later this month.
