New Year revellers stay out of trouble

The Christmas and New Year festivities passed relatively crime-free, according to police in Mid Sussex.

They reported minor incidents on the Broadway in Haywards Heath, and two assaults in Burgess Hill.

A 21-year-old local man got a fractured nose, cuts and bruises when he was assaulted in Station Road, Burgess Hill near the service entrance of Waitrose, at 12.30am on New Year's Day.

In a separate incident another 21-year-old local man was treated in the Princess Royal Hospital for injuries to the face after being assaulted on West Street, Burgess Hill near London Road about 1.50am.
