MID Sussex residents are popping on the kettle for Macmillan nurses tomorrow as part of The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Hassocks Sports Centre, operated by Freedom Leisure, is organising a coffee morning between 10am and noon and staff are hoping as many people as possible will support the event.

The sports centre is in the sports hall behind Downlands Community School off Dale Avenue.

If you are not a coffee addict, The Cock Inn at Wivelsfield is offering alternative beverages from 10am.

The event runs until mid-day with not only coffee and cakes available, but the wide selection of alternatives you would expect to find in a well-stocked pub.

If you live in the Cuckfield area there is a coffee morning with what are described as ‘scrummy cakes and scones’ at The Old School off Church Lane between 10am and midday.

In Haywards Heath, from 11am, The Star pub on The Broadway is also fund-raising at a special event for Macmillan.

Derek McGauley, manager at The Star, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning because it is an extremely worthy cause.”

Coffee and a selection of cakes and savoury dishes will be on sale. There will also be a raffle.

Country Gardens Handcross, on London Road, will be offering customers free tea and coffee from 9am until 12noon in return for donations.

Last year’s nationwide event raised more than £10million pounds for the charity.
