Plumpton College student helps in badger rescue
Plumpton College student Jamie Martin helped to rescue a cold and stranded badger from a disused swimming pool.
Jamie, who is studying for a diploma in animal care and management was called out as a volunteer with East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) last Friday.
The badger was stuck in a disused swimming pool at Windmill Hill near Hailsham and Jamie helped Trevor Weeks MBE, the founder of the WRAS, in the rescue.
The owners of the pool had found two badgers in the empty pool last Thursday. They put up a ladder into the pool overnight and one badger managed to escape but the other was stranded and very cold.
Trevor and Jamie used a dog grasper to secure the badger and gently lifted him into a cage.
The badger is receiving antiobiotics and Trevor hopes to release him back into the garden where he was found.
Badgers can give you a nasty bite and Trevor is advising anyone who sees an injured badger to contact WRAS on 01825-873003.
