A demonstration is planned outside East Sussex County Council’s offices in Lewes from 9am tomorrow (Wednesday, February 13) to protest against proposals to cut the budget by more than £60m over the next three years.

Councillors meet at 10am tomorrow to discuss the savings.

Protestors have organised a Facebook page at:

Adult social care is facing cuts of more than £27million, with savings of more than £11million proposed in children’s services.

Campaigners say these cuts are not necessary.

A spokesman for the protest group said: “The council has had it’s budget slashed by central government, but they must bear some responsibility for doing the government’s work for them. The council have £473m in reserves and are spending £44m on a controversial road scheme in the county.

“Nationally £120bn of tax is avoided, evaded or uncollected. There is an alternative, and it’s time that the most vulnerable in our society were protected.”
