Race for Life - sign up today
ARDINGLY Showground is this year's new location for the largest women only fundraising event for Cancer Research UK.
More than 260 Race for Life events are taking place across the UK and now women in Mid Sussex can take part at Ardingly on June 29.
Cancer Research UK's Race for Life 2008 is hoping to attract 2,000 competitors to Ardingly and raise 141,000.
The 5km course will take runners, joggers and walkers around the South of England Showground and surrounding areas, providing a picturesque setting for the challenge.
For many women Race for Life is an annual occasion while for others this will be the first time they take part in an event of this size. Some are cancer survivors while others run or walk in memory or in celebration of family, friends or loved ones, making the race experience emotional and inspiring.
Carly Gibbs, area event manager for Race for Life said: "We hope this is an invitation women can't refuse. At Race for Life there are thousands of women of all ages and abilities, shapes and sizes who will motivate and inspire each other to complete the 5km course.
"Many simply walk round, chatting and having fun, but all share and enjoy the incredible sisterhood and spirit on the day.
"Last year's events had an unforgettable atmosphere and we raised an incredible amount of money nationwide.
"This year, we are hoping that 2,000 women will sign up to take part in the Ardingly event, helping us to raise a target of 141,000 at this event alone."
Gloria Hunniford, Patron of Race for Life said: "I'm extremely proud to be patron of Race for Life 2008 and would urge every woman, no matter what their age or ability, to sign up for their nearest event.
"It's all about women coming together, having fun and celebrating the meaning of Race for Life. The genuine enthusiasm and emotion demonstrated by women across the UK creates an atmosphere that is truly unique and inspiring."
Race for Life began in 1994 as a women only event and has remained so ever since due to its huge popularity and its non-competitive atmosphere which encourages women of all ages and fitness levels to take part.
Every penny raised in sponsorship by Race for Life participants goes directly to Cancer Research UK, to help fund life-saving research to beat cancer.
Each year in the UK nearly 285,000 people are diagnosed with cancer and more than 150,000 people die from the disease. More than one in three people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives.
More than 750,000 women nationwide are expected to take part in this year's Race for Life. The charity is hoping to raise 5million pounds to fund Cancer Research UK's work.
