Over-running improvement works on the Brighton mainline near Gatwick Airport means Southern is unable to run services between Three Bridges and Redhill today (December 30).

Due to a large landslip near Dorking, there is is no direct route available between Victoria and Gatwick Airport.

Instead, Southern is operating a service between London Victoria and East Grinstead with onward bus connections to Gatwick Airport.

The improvement works near Purley to replace a major rail junction are ongoing and the planned hand back is still scheduled for the start of service on Thursday, January 2.

However, Southern is warning that poor weather in recent days may have hampered key elements of the works. Doubts remain over whether services will be fully operational on the Brighton mainline by the end of the wekk. Passengers are advised to check before travelling.

Southern’s website is at: southern
