Representations invited on West Sussex Waste Plan

The plan will determine how waste is disposed of across the county

The plan will determine how waste is disposed of across the county

Representations are being invited over a draft waste plan for West Sussex, which includes a site at Goddards Green.

The county-wide plan is close to completion after consultation over the summer and now people will be asked to comment on its soundness and legal compliance. The deadline for comments is January 11.

The ‘Proposed Submission Draft Waste Local Plan’ sets out a vision to 2031 and seeks to provide sufficient capacity for waste management whilst ensuring that communities, the environment, the economy and the special character of West Sussex are protected.

However, campaigners in and around Goddards Green are worried that an incinerator could be built with a large chimney stack, although the exact method of waste disposal on five sites chosen for the draft submission plan is yet to be determined.

The Goddards Green site is close to the A23 and near the Southern Water waste treatment works.

The plan, which also includes sites outside Mid Sussex, will be considered by an independent planning inspector at a future public examination.

A consultation summary has been produced to explain changes made to the plan in response to comments received during the consultation and it is available along with the draft plan at west sussex
