Drivers were having to take a wide berth as sections of the new Haywards Heath bypass railway bridge were delivered by road today (Monday).
The long pieces of reinforced concrete were secured on juggarnauts as they wound their way under escort from the A23, through Ansty and the Cuckfield by-pass to their Rock Lane destination.
Crest Nicholson, which is managing the work, said it was due to take delivery of four beams today, four tomorrow (Tuesday) and four on Wednesday with the final two arriving on Saturday.
The work to lift them into place across the span linking the realigned Rocky Lane to Bolnore Village is due to take place on March 1 and 2.
Rocky Lane is currently closed for the realignment to take place with long diversions in place for drivers between Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill.
