SHOWJUMPING champion William Funnell added a touch of star quality to the opening of a new equestrian department at a Hassocks garden centre.

South Down Nurseries in Brighton Centre has opened its new equine centre in response to demand from horse owners and will stock a wide range of feeds, tack, bedding, supplements and supplies.

William, 43, signed posters and experts were on hand to give advice on all aspects of equine health and welfare.

He has represented Great Britain on 27 different occasions involving two European Championships and has won more than 50 International competitions.
