Singer sets sights on next challenge - her GCSEs

A teenage singer from Haywards Heath has been pipped to the winning post.

Oathall Community College student Clara Hurtado, 16, got to the Open Mic UK grand final at The O2 in London but didn’t make it into the top three.

Clara’s mum Sharon said: “After her performance she felt a little depleted like so much had gone into the preparation, she had produced the backing track herself and she had help from Pat, vocal coach at Rokskool, and with a performance with Rosie Langhorn ex ‘Legs and Co’ from Top of The Pops. But she was proud of herself.”

Overall she was marked highly by the judges and was given constructive criticism.

Sharon added: “Next she will be singing at the Lindfield festival in May and she has joined a girl band choreographed by Rosie Langhorn.

“She is also practising with a band, where she is the only female.

“But first off she has to get through her GCSEs.”
