A number of schools in Mid Sussex are closed or partially closed today (Tuesday, March 11) due to the adverse weather conditions.

Warden Park School said last night (Monday): “The drive and footpaths are covered with the snow that has fallen today. This has now turned to ice and more snow is falling. Roads around Cuckfield are gridlocked with vehicles unable to move. We anticipate a similar problem in the morning as freezing temperatures and further light snow is forecast tonight (Monday) and tomorrow. The sloping drive is likely to be impassable for buses and dangerous for cars on Tuesday morning. Footways are also hazardous.
“Staff will have difficulty getting in tomorrow from the south coast and will be working on planning and assessment from home. Students should similarly complete any outstanding work – most have plenty to do.
“We are reluctant to close but feel that, by making a decision this evening, parents will have valuable additional time to plan.
“We will clear the site on Tuesday and, with little further snow forecast, hope to re-open on Wednesday. Please check the website for further news after 6pm on Tuesday.
“The Year 7 iPad presentation evening will be rearranged on an evening next week. We will notify parents of a date as soon as possible.”
Saplings will not be on tomorrow due to adverse weather conditions.
Bolnore School will be closed
Central Sussex College Haywards Heath campus willb e closed
Burgess Hill School for Girls will still be open but there will be no school transport.
Their website said: “No school transport running on Tuesday 12th March, 2013.
“I regret to say that, owing to the adverse weather conditions there will be no school transport running on Tuesday 12th March, 2013.
“The school will remain open with a limited timetable to accommodate Boarders and any pupil whose parents wish to and are able to bring their daughter(s) into school.
“Please be aware that the school site will not have been cleared of snow. If you enter the school on foot or in a vehicle please exercise extreme caution.
“Girls coming into school do not need to wear uniform and should be dressed appropriately for the weather conditions. Lunch will be available.”
Tavistock and Summerhill school and nursery is closed.
Oakmeeds in Burgess Hill is closed
