SNOW - Travel chaos, school closures as cold snap set to continue
snow on the bonnet of a car
Mid Sussex was thrown into turmoil this week when the spring weather of the previous seven days turned bitterly cold and the county was
deluged with an unseasonal covering of snow.
On Monday (March 11) night, dozens of people reported being trapped in their cars for up to 12 hours on Sussex roads, as snow and ice brought traffic in some areas to a grinding halt.
Motorists were stuck on the A23 for up to ten hours with many leaving their cars on the side of the road.
Trains have been subject to delay or cancellation today
By Tuesday, as the snow continued to fall, journeys remained hazardous, many schools were closed, and some shopping centre emptied.
And the cold snap looks set to continue, the Met Office has downgraded its weather warning from amber ‘be prepared’ to yellow ‘be aware’ but problems with ice look set to continue as temperatures drop.
