Authorities have been struggling to cope with the number of fallen trees in Mid Sussex and beyond.

This one partially blocked Oathall Road, Haywards Heath, while it awaited being moved.

Rocky Lane, between Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill, had several large branches blocking sides of the road but cars were able to drive around them.

Everywhere drivers were wary of falling branches from trees already weakened by strong gusts.

Workers did their best to clear debris, but were outnumbered by the incidents.

It was not just large branches that posed dangers, smaller ones litter roads and can create problems for drivers, especially in the dark. pic: Phil Dennett
