Talk tonight on fracking fears

editorial image

A Canadian scientist will give a talk on hydraulic fracturing, otherwise known as ‘fracking’, in Balcombe tonight (Friday). Jessica Ernst is said to have 30 years’ experience working as a consultant to the oil and gas industry.

According to literature about her talk, she is suing an oil and gas company, the state regulator and the Alberta government over allegations that the water on her Alberta farm has been contaminated by fracking.

Her talk, entitled ‘Accidents and Omissions speak louder than words’, will be at Victory Hall in Balcombe and not Balcombe School at 8pm with donations on the door requested towards Jessica’s travelling costs.

Balcombe is the target for drilling company Cuadrilla Resources which has a licence to explore using hydraulic fracturing at a site off the B2036 between Balcombe and Cuckfield. Opponents, who also fear pollution, claim fracking may become widespread across Sussex.
