A 19-year-old who has battled severe depression with help from a Haywards Heath charity, has taken part in a fundraiser for the trust.
Bethany Harris, 19, battled depression at Chalkhill Children and Adolescents Mental Health Unit (CAMHS) at Princess Royal Hospital when she was just 16.
But three years on she has helped raise awareness of the trust by taking part in a sponsored walk.
She said: “Chalkhill played a big part in helping me with my recovery. The people that worked with me gave me the courage and support in wanting to change.“
Sussex Partnership NHS Trust Charity held the ‘seaside stroll’ on Sunday as part of the NHS charities’ walking event Walk for Wards.
Volunteers strolled for five miles from Worthing Pier to Shoreham Beach.
The charity hoped their event would raise money to enhance care in its inpatient mental health wards across the county.
Bethany, from Bognor Regis, is now a nursing student and hopesf to raise awareness as well as funds.
She said: “I want to give something back to Chalkhill so that they can continue supporting young people like me.”
