The Ship sails into first position after CAMRA group’s visit

The Ship pub at Whitemans Green in Cuckfield has been voted Pub of the Year by the Sussex Bus to the Pub group.

The group’s members describe themselves as intrepid beer travellers – mostly members of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) – who visited by bus more than 140 pubs throughout
Sussex during 2012.

The beer and pub lovers say they are always warmly welcomed by The Ship’s hosts, Bill and Vicky Parke, and they will be returning tomorrow (Friday) at around 1pm for a presentation.

Landlady Vicky was celebrated throughout Cuckfield when she won the Independent State of Cuckfield mayor’s election in October 2011 and the honour of wearing the mayoral regalia to community events for the next 12 months. Vicky romped home after raising the most money – aka ‘votes’ – in the election. Her personal total was just under £7,000, nearly half the record total for all the candidates of £14,144.

Others in the Sussex Bus to the Pub group’s top 10 included The Horns Lodge at South Chailey.
