Traffic delays along the A272 in Haywards Heath have taken a turn for the worse with major roadworks changing location.
Trenches are being dug at three differnt locations along the A272 in the town to allow 900m of high voltage electric cable to be laid for new housing off Bolnore Road.
So far carriageways have been closed in South Road and Bolnore Road and near the Sergison Arms with two and four way traffic lights controlling vehicle movements.
Now a whole carriageway the length of Muster Green is being excavated with long delays being generated especially at peak times.
Utilities provider, Gas Transportation Company (GTC), is installing 900m of high voltage cable through the A272 Haywards Heath area to maintain and supply existing and new developments.
The work has been scheduled in excess of 18 months but due to the level of major works throughout the wider network and the duration of the works, September 2013 was the earliest date available.
It is anticipated that the work will take until the end of November, although GTC says every effort is being made to speed up and to cause the least disruption possible.
As works progress lane closures and road closures with a small diversion will be required at the Muster Green/ South Road roundabout. This phase will be done at weekends to minimise week day peak traffic disruption
