Victory in fight to save woodland

HAYWARDS Heath residents have won a victory in their fight to save ancient woodland, and reduce the number of new homes in Bolnore village.

The Secretary of State, Hazel Blears, has announced that she will allow modified applications made by residents and Mid Sussex District Council, subject to further representations.

The council, along with local community groups, raised many objections to developer Crest Nicholson's proposals, including the number of new homes, the provision of affordable housing, and the loss of green space.

A 50-day public inquiry about the Bolnore Village plans was held over a period of 12 months, ending in May 2007.

The Secretary of State has reduced the limit on the number of dwellings in phase 4 and 5 of the plans from 785 to 685 and has enforced planning conditions on the amount of affordable housing.
