Are you as happy as the Government thinks you are?
If you live in Mid Sussex it thinks you’re very happy indeed.
Mid Sussex residents are amongst the happiest in the nation, scoring 7.76 out of ten, according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
People across the UK were posed the question ‘overall, how happy did you feel yesterday?’ and asked to give a number out of ten.
The ONS then generated average scores for different areas of the country.
The average happiness figure for the UK was 7.4, with Mid and East Antrim in Northern Ireland smiling at the head of the pack at 8.21.
The Annual Population Survey looked at three other areas of well-being in addition to happiness: life satisfaction, how worthwhile you feel the things you do are and anxiety.
Mid Sussex again scored highly for life satisfaction - 8.05 out of ten against a national average of 7.6, and for the worthwhile category (8.03 with a UK average of 7.8).
People in Mid Sussex are also less anxious than the rest of the nation, according to the ONS, giving an average of 2.75 against a UK figure of 2.9.
You can view an interactive map of the scores on the ONS website.
