Mid Sussex District Council is hosting a ‘Help to Buy’ Open Day on Wednesday, February 18, to help struggling first time buyers find out how they can afford to own their own home.

Help to Buy Agent BPHA will be at the event to provide useful advice and information about products such as Equity Loans and Shared Ownership, which are designed to make buying a home more affordable. The Open Day is completely free and there is no need to book, just drop in to Haywards Heath Town Hall between 3pm and 6pm on February 18.

Housing association representatives will be on hand to provide details of all the shared ownership homes that they have available in the Mid Sussex area.

First time buyers may start off owning just a small share of the house but over time, as their circumstances change, they can gradually buy more shares until they own the property outright.

Information will also be available about equity loans, which enable aspiring homeowners to purchase specific new-build properties from participating developers with as little as per cent deposit.

First time buyers will be able to find out if they are eligible for these schemes and obtain free independent financial advice that will help them make an informed decision about which property is right for them.

“Getting a foot on the first rung of the property ladder can be extremely difficult, especially in an area like Mid Sussex where house prices are high and a large deposit is often required in order to obtain a mortgage,” said Councillor Christopher Snowling, Cabinet Member for Health and Community.

“With the shared ownership and equity loan schemes, you only need a deposit for a small percentage of the price of the house, making it much easier to buy a home in the area where you live or work.

“Our ‘Help to Buy’ Open Day will provide you with everything you need to know about these options.

“If you are looking to buy a home for the first time then come along to the event because these schemes really do provide more affordable ways for you to buy a place that you can call your own.”
