THANKS to Carole and Paul Nicholson who opened their garden and working Mill to raise funds for St Peter & St James Hospice recently. It was an excellent day and raised a magnificent £1,800 for the Hospice. Thanks also go to all who visited the garden, helped on the day, baked cakes and donated tombola prizes.

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY SUMMER SHOW is this Saturday (July 25) at the village hall. All are welcome to participate by joining the Society and entering exhibits. Also by going along to the hall from 2pm to see the displays of summer flowers and vegetables, have a go on the tombola, enjoy refreshments and bid for produce in the auction at the end.

CRICKET this Saturday sees Plumpton in two league games starting at 1.30pm. The Ist X1 are away to St Peter’s, Brighton, and the 2nd X1 have a game at home, at the King George V Playing Field, against Polegate and Stone Cross. For more information call Kelvin Spiers on 01273 890785.

ALL SAINTS CHURCH services this Sunday are Holy Communion at 8.30am and Evensong at 6.30pm. There will be Sung Communion at 10.30am at East Chiltington Church. In addition at All Saints there are daily services (Tuesday to Friday) at 9am and on Saturdays at 10am.

POP-IN-PARLOUR is open on Tuesday, July 28, at All Saints Church Annex from 11am onwards for refreshments including lite-bites. Do go along for a chat and meet friends and make new ones.

CHANCTONBURY RING Morris Men will be dancing at The Plough on Wednesday, July 29, at 8pm.

TENNIS COACH leaving; sadly Zoard is moving back to London and he, along with Sorin, has made a great difference to coaching at Plumpton Tennis Club. Anyone who has had a tennis lesson with Zoard will appreciate how lucky the club have been to have him, in particular for coaching tots and children of all ages. His tennis tots and junior lessons have been great fun and he will be greatly missed. Sorin will assist the Club in their search for a replacement to help run coaching at the club. He is also organising the summer camps for juniors; the first will run for four days starting on Monday July 27 with time slots for different ages (leaving Wednesday free) and the second at the end of August. PHOTOGRAPHY for Archaeologists is a day course, with Lisa Fisher, at the Plumpton Villa excavation site on Saturday August 1 from 10am to 4pm. The fee is £40 and £25 for full time students. FOOTPATH SOCIETY embarks on a relatively flat four mile walk on Saturday August 1 and everyone is welcome to join them. Meet at the Windmill Pub car park, Littleworth (193 205) for a 10.30am start. RIVER OUSE is incorporated into the Footpath Society walk on Saturday August 5 starting at 10.30am beside the road west of Southease Swing bridge (432 055). To walk along the bank of the River Ouse, Bullock Down, Cricketing Bottom and enjoy lunch at the Abergavenny Arms. The return to Southease will be via The Brooks. VEGETARIAN & VEGAN COOKING is the subject of the Women’s Institute meeting, in the village hall, on Wednesday August 12 at 7.30pm. The speaker will be Diane Page and. Visitors are always welcome. For more details call Marilyn Nye on 01273 891323.

SUN AND MOON FESTIVAL is a small festival of around 350 people at Plumpton College from Sunday August 16 to Sunday August 23. In the evenings there will be live music and entertainment and a chance to just socialise and relax. The heart of the festival however will be the workshops and courses you can attend, with around sixty teachers and facilitators there are lots of amazing courses on offer. CONGRATULATIONS to Plumpton College for their achievements at The English & Welsh Wine of the Year Competition. For Dean Blush the College was awarded the Most Outstanding Small Production Trophy and the Most Outstanding Sparkling Rosé trophy. The College’s success didn’t end there as the Dean Blush was given a gold medal, as was Dean Brut sparkling.
