Sussex Police has apologised for the slower response to 101 calls during the summer and said new call handlers are being recruited.

Jo Ball , head of non-emergency at Sussex Police, said: “We regret this and apologise for any frustration and inconvenience caused. We always receive higher call volumes during the summer period, and in addition to this, staff levels are lower than usual.

“This is a temporary situation while we move to a new staffing structure over the coming months in our police contact centre.”
