An award-winning vineyard is taking its English sparkling wine to a global event.
Ridgeview Wine Estate, in Ditchling Common, has been selected to highlight the best of English wines in the UK Pavilion at Milan’s World Expo.
The theme for this year’s event, which runs from May 1 to October 31 centres on ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’.
Owners of Ridgeview, which this year celebrates 20 years at the forefront of English sparkling wine production, said they are ‘thrilled’ to be included in caterer Mosimann’s offering within the UK Pavilion.
Ridgeview CEO Tamara Roberts notes: “To be a part of this historical event in Milan, and for our wines to be showcased alongside such passionate producers from throughout the UK, is something we are extremely proud of. It underpins the importance we place on working with great partners across the globe. We are really looking forward to showcasing the quality of Ridgeview and English wines to the world.”
Not only will Ridgeview’s Bloomsbury be available throughout the Pavilion, their Cavendish was also served at the UK Pavilion Inauguration evening on April 15.
Two other wineries were also selected: their neighbours Bolney Estate and Chapel Down in Kent.
The Expo will host 145 nations and will run for 184 days on an exhibition site covering one million square meters. Milan Expo is expected to welcome over 20 million visitors with millions more being reached online.
The UK Pavilion will use the finest seasonal produce to showcase the best of British food and drink to an estimated 3,000 daily visitors.
A spokeswoman for the estate said: “The inclusion of Ridgeview’s sparkling wines within the Mosimann’s catering offering emphasises both the importance of the English wine industry to UK trade and exports, as well as highlighting Ridgeview’s position as one of the pioneering wineries exporting their quality wines across the world.”
Ridgeview has also been selected as a winner of the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) competition to visit World Expo with a delegation of 13 other food and drink producers from the South East. Tamara Roberts will be visiting Milan with UKTI in May, which will include a market briefing hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce for Italy.
A spokeswoman for the estate said: “This is a wonderful endorsement of the work the team at Ridgeview have achieved exporting and representing their winery.”
