Part of College Road, between Haywards Heath and Ardingly, will be closed for one month from the beginning of July.
Southern Gas Networks will be working to upgrade the existing gas main within the road on the bridge that crosses the River Ouse.
That section of the road will be closed from July 6 until the beginning of August.
Works have been scheduled within the Ardingly College summer holiday to prevent disruption.
The road closure is required as there are insufficient widths for them to maintain traffic flow and complete the works safely.
A diversion will be in place through Linfield Road, Ardingly Road, Black Hill, West Common, Summerhill Lane, Portsmouth Lane, and High Beech Lane.
Southern Gas workmen will also switch out the traffic lights at the junction at West Common and Summerhill Lane.
They will put up their own and change the positioning to allow HGV’s enough turning space when they exist out of Summerhill Lane.
