Passengers have faced delays at Wivelsfield Station after a signalling issue on the line.
Southern Rail has reported the issue between Wivelsfield and Preston Park, with many facing delays of up to half an hour.
A spokesman for Southern Rail said: “It was a signal failure which occurred at approximately 05.15 this morning. It meant that it was not possible to use both lines so the train service was thinned on the Brighton Main Line, with some services being diverted via Lewes and Horsham. This meant that there were delays of up to 60 minutes experienced.
“The problem was fixed just before 09.00 and a full service was able to run on the line again.
“However, because of the disruption, we are still recovering the service with delays of up to 30 minutes in place, but as long as there are no new issues, we should be in a string position to provide a full evening peak service.”
Thameslink website states: “A signalling problem between Preston Park and Wivelsfield is causing delays of up to 30 minutes between Brighton and Haywards Heath. This is expected to continue until 14:00.”
