A road was closed after a sinkhole appeared in Burgess Hill yesterday (Tuesday March 29).
A statement from West Sussex Highways said the emergency road closure had been put in place while the hole, in Mill Road, was inspected.
The statement said a diversion would be put in place.
A West Sussex County Council representative said they had closed the road around 4.30pm.
Since then, contractors have been digging a ‘trial hole’ to see how deep the sinkhole goes.
He said they hoped to know more by Wednesday morning.
