Six people have been taken to hospital after a two car crash on the A22.

Emergency services including an air ambulance was called to the scene in Wych Cross at 4.14am today (Wednesday July 1).

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters freed an elderly woman and another person from a car before they were taken to hospital by ambulance. Four other people were injured and taken to hospital.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “A woman driving one of the cars was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton to be treated for serious but not life threatening injuries. Several other people received injuries assessed as minor.

“The A22 was closed in both directions but the northbound carriageway was open again by 6.30am.”

Firefighters from East Grinstead and Forest Row were in attendance until 5.56am.
