A family’s weekend trip away was ruined after thieves broke into their car – stealing a 12-year-old’s treasured toy lamb.

Matt and Caroline Haigh are appealing for help to find a missing toy lamb given to their daughter Jessica when she was born.

Three bags, including a blue rucksack with the lamb inside, were stolen from the family’s car after the rear windscreen was smashed near Ardingly Reservoir on Sunday.

Matt Haigh said: “The chances are the people just dumped the bag. There wasn’t anything in them of value apart from my 12-year-old’s cuddly sheep she had taken with her.”

Mr Haigh said the ‘old and precious’ lamb – called BaaLamb – was a present from Jessica’s godmother and has sentimental value to the family, adding that his daughter was desperate for its return.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Three bags were stolen from the rear of an Audi A6 car parked at Ardingly Reservoir on Sunday.

“A brown leather holdall containing clothing and bank cards and two children’s back packs which contained toys including a sheep teddy were stolen.”
