A 21-year-old motorcyclist from Shoreham has died after his motorbike struck a tree in Crawley yesterday (Sunday September 13).

The incident happened on the A2220 Horsham Road at about 12.30pm.

The Shoreham man was riding a white Yamaha 125cc east on the dual carriageway some 50 metres east of the Breezehurst Drive roundabout.

His motorbike mounted the kerb on the central reservation and crashed into a tree, a spokesperson for Sussex Police said.

Paramedics and a doctor from the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance attempted to save the motorcyclist but were unable to do so.

Police believe no other vehicles were involved. The road was closed for almost four hours while emergency services were at the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information can email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101, quoting Operation Abbot.
