Two children and six adults were involved in a crash in Hassocks yesterday.

Five paramedics vehicles rushed to attend the two-vehicle head-on collision in Hurst Road, near the Stonepound Crossroads, just after 4pm (on Wednesday August 6).

The two children were taken to Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton and one adult was taken to Royal Sussex Hospital.

A SECAmb (South East Coast Ambulance) spokesman said the other five patients were assessed at the scene but were not seriously hurt.

Sussex Police said a white Volvo V60 and a blue Volkswagen Polo collided before the Volvo crashed into a wall.

70-year-old woman from Ditchling Common, who was driving the Volvo, was taken to hospital suffering from serious chest injuries.

Her passengers - a six-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy, both from Ditchling Common - suffered whiplash.

A 73-year-old man from Hurstpierpoint driving the Volkswagen suffered whiplash along with his four passengers - a 27-year-old woman from Hurstpierpoint, a 22-year-old woman from Kent, a 38-year-old woman from Bristol and a 27-year-old woman from Leicester.

The road was closed until 7pm while officers investigated and highways staff cleared a patch of fuel that had spilled onto the road.

Anyone who saw the collision or either of the vehicles being driven before the crash should call police 101 or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk.
