Police have today appealed for more information after a 70-year-old man was punched in the back of the head.

Officers said the victim was waiting for the Number 40 Sussex bus in Church Road, Burgess Hill, at around 4.20pm on Wednesday, December 2.

He was involved in an altercation with a man and a woman with a pushchair.

The man grabbed the victim around the throat and verbally threatened him, police said.

The suspect is described as white, in his twenties, 5’6”, of stocky build with black hair.

All three got on the bus and the victim alighted near Belmont Close in Hassocks at around 4.35pm.

Police said the pensioner was then punched in the back of the head as he was about to cross London Road and was knocked to the ground.

He was left shaken and bruised.

Police are investigating whether the two incidents are linked.

PC Dale Marklew said: “We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen either the incident at the bus stop in Burgess Hill or the subsequent assault in Hassocks.
