UPDATE: Trains running again but expect delays and cancellations


Southern Rail says the line between Haywards Heath, Three Bridges and Gatwick has now reopened after the flooding in Balcombe tunnel this morning (Friday).

However, services are subject to delays of up to 45 minutes with some cancellations.

Latest updates on Southern’s website says services affected are its trains between Brighton/Havant and London Victoria/London Bridge; also Hastings/Eastbourne and London Bridge.

First Capital Connect services between Brighton and Bedford are also suffering due to the weather.

According to the website: “The line (between Gatwick and Haywards Heath) was closed earlier this morning, but water levels have now fallen and train services have resumed.

“The train service has resumed between Haywards Heath and Gatwick Airport but residual delays of up to 45 minutes may still occur.”

The Southern 15:07, 16:07 & 17:07 services between East Grinstead and London Victoria will be started from Hurst Green due to flooding

First Capital Connect is running a half-hourly train service between Brighton and City Thameslink.

Passengers may use Southern and London Overground services via any reasonable route, and London Buses in the Travelcard 1-6 zones.

Journeys between London St Pancras International and Bedford are being disrupted by additional problems at Hendon.

Passengers may use:

•First Capital Connect and Southeastern services on any reasonable route

•London Buses on route 405 between Redhill and Purley

•Metrobus services between Redhill / Crawley and East Grinstead
