A devoted car enthusiast was given the surprise he has waited years for, when a £45,000 Porsche showed up on his driveway today.

Graham Williams, 62, from Lindfield, had no idea what surprise his wife had in store when she told him he had to stay in the house because they had a surprise visitor coming.

He has played the weekly Best of the Best (botb) Cars competition for years in the hope of winning a super car so when he opened his door to a man who he has seen presenting lucky winners with prize cars, he realised what was in store.

“It was pretty much 15 seconds of shock then I realised and thought ‘oh my god’,” he explained after he had recovered from the shock.

“I’ve been doing these competitions for many many years.

“It started donkeys years ago when we were going on holiday from Gatwick when I fell for the cars on the stand but then something must have encouraged me to keep going back.

“I love challenges as well and I love cars! I never thought this would happen.”

He has played the competition online many times in the hope of winning another luxury car to park alongside his two beloved Audis.

His wife Rowan was impressed with her husband’s reaction.

She said: “That was absolutely brilliant to see. I’ve never seen him smile so much!.”

Mr Williams said he was worried who might be coming to visit him.

“I just don’t do surprises,” he said. “I absolutely hate surprises but this one I adored.

“She was saying ‘no I won’t tell you but you will be pleased to see them’, and I must say I did not think of this!”

Graham bought a ticket for the competition through www.botb.com
