Haywards Heath’s rugby match with Wimbledon was temporarily halted on Saturday after one of the visiting players broke his neck.
Air Ambulance had to land on the pitch after 26-year-old Jack Fishwick was injured in the opening exchanges of the London One Division South game and air-lifted to hospital.
After a 14-hour operation, Fishwick remains on a ventilator and the RFU’s critical care unit is working with the club in supporting the player’s family.
Former Chairman and acting 1st XV Manager Alan Jenkins said: “Wimbledon RFC have expressed their gratitude for the speedy action of a number of Heath members, especially, the Heath physio Jade Markwick, for their prompt action in support of the Wimbledon physio and of Jack. All Heath members wish Jack all the very best for a speedy recovery.”
Fishwick works as freelance sports injury rehabilitator and masseur, specialising in musculoskeletal injury treatment, management and rehabilitation.
