Hassocks residents see red over parking

Waiting for Video...

If you are a Hassocks resident living within 500 metres of the station how many times have you struggled to find anywhere to park near your house?

Parking by commuters or holiday-makers hopping on a train to Gatwick is becoming an increasing problem and Hassocks Parish Council is trying to do something about it.

Cathy Burt, who lives in Woodsland Road near the station, has presented a petition to Ian Weir, who chairs the council’s parking group.

She told the Middy: “In our road we have beautiful Victorian houses with no drives. I know this isn’t a private road and it’s free parking but there is not a single space for residents. People are going on holiday and abandoning their cars for two weeks with no regard for the people who live here.”

Ian Weir has received complaints from other residents in parking hot spots including Semley Road, Clayton Avenue and Chancellor’s Park and he has launched a village-wide traffic survey to assess the problem.

To this end, the parish council has launched a ‘Hassocks Parking Survey’ questionnaire which will be distributed to every household between March 3 and 8.

Parking survey questionnaires will be dropping through letter boxes in early March. Completed questionnaires should be returned by 5pm on Saturday, March 23 to: Best One Shop in Keymer Parade; Orion News in Orion Parade; the Purple Carrot Café, Station Approach West and the parish office at Adastra Park.

If the office is closed, put your questionnaire in the letter-box.
