Help at Hand: are holding their Annual Cream Tea on Saturday, 16 July between 3 and 5 pm in the Parish Hall; the cost is £3.50 for adults and £1.75 for children. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that Help at Hand is a village organisation that transports the less mobile to hospital appointments and the like '“ not only the less mobile, but those who are just unable to get to appointments due to the lack of or bad timing of public transport. This is a popular event due to the high quality of the tea (especially the scones served with jam and cream!) and the raffle prizes which are usually donated by many local businesses and are well worth winning! If you would like to go but are unable to get to the Hall under your own steam, get on the phone quick to Help at Hand - call 400212 to find out who the duty officer for the day is and then call them to see if there is a driver able to assist. You will have to be quick though as most of the drivers are expected to be there! If you would like more information about the organisation or would like to volunteer, either as a driver (of which there are never enough!) or a duty officer (who matches those in need to a driver), speak to any of the committee on the day or call Ian Ratcliffe on 400763.

The Refuse Freighter: will be in the parish on Sunday, 17 July: from 10 until 11 o’clock it will be at the Seaforth Hall in Warninglid, moving on to the car park in front of St Mary’s Church, Slaugham where it will be from 11.15 am until 12 noon. Please remember, if it is not there, don’t leave your rubbish and they are unable to take any computer or electrical equipment and only small amounts of garden waste. If you are unsure as to whether or not they are allowed to take your rubbish, I have always found the people who drive the vehicle very approachable and helpful, so don’t hesitate to ask.

The next meeting: of the Neighbourhood Planning Committee will be on Monday, 18 July from 7.30 pm in the Pavilion. I’m not certain if the problems with the website will be resolved by then, but a copy of the agenda will be posted on the notice board outside the Spar Shop, as well as the other village notice boards in the parish. These meetings are always to the point which can make them short but rest assured, all pertinent points are covered, so please do go along and show your support to the committee and at the same time, learn where they are up to with the Plan.

The Rosemary Club: meets next Wednesday, 20 July from 2.30 pm in the Parish Hall. This month’s talk is about ‘A Sussex Farm during the 1950’s, to be enjoyed with a homemade tea. As I have mentioned before, these meetings are open to all but it doesn’t cost much to become a member and then you can enjoy all the benefits – free outings and a very popular and much enjoyed Christmas lunch! If you are already a member and would like to be more involved, they are looking for another committee member; the committee meets once a month, usually the week before the meeting so would not take up too much of your time. If you would like more information as to what exactly is involved, get in touch with Helen on 400643. If you would like to be picked up for the meeting the person to speak to is Alison and her number is 01293 516017.
