SUNDAY CINEMA: on 29 May is The Lady in the Van (12a). Maggie Smith fills the screen in this real life portrayal of a bag lady. She lived in a van parked in the street, but took up permanent residence outside Alan Bennett’s London home. He made the story into a book, then a play and now a film. This film closes the spring season.

HURST COMMUNITY CELEBRATION: The Community Charity reaches its 21st anniversary this month. A million pounds has been raised and given away to hundreds of people and organisations. A celebration of this achievement will be held on Sunday 5 June at 4 pm in Holy Trinity Church. People will talk about how they have been helped, There will be music, and then tea and cakes. Everyone is welcome.

HURST AFTERNOON CLUB :has the visit of Daisy Pipperage on Tuesday 7 June Village Centre at 2.15pm.

FUNDRAISING NIGHT OF MUSIC: for St Peter and St James Hospice on Saturday 11 June at 7.30pm, Holy Trinity church. Maria Jones and soloists from the Royal Opera House are coming for a night of opera, jazz, musicals and poetry. Tickets £12 with a glass of wine, concessions £10, from Misoin Mackay.

HURSTPIERPOINT HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: visits to gardens this summer. On Thursday 2 June is an afternoon/evening visit to the famous Highdown Gardens at Goring and Plantation Rise garden at 6.30pm with a glass of wine Cost £6.50. Wednesday 13 July all day to Follers Manor garden, Alfriston, a buffet lunch, then to Driftwood in Bishopstone with tea and cakes. Cost £24 including lunch and tea. Finally on Thursday 11 August an evening visit to Durrance Manor Shipley. Cost £9.50. All trips need your own transport or lifts can be arranged. Book as soon as possible as places are limited.
